Bramford and Somersham

Primary School Federation

Equality

What is the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED)?

The PSED was introduced by the Equality Act 2010 and applies to all schools, including maintained and independent schools, academies, maintained nursery schools, and maintained and non-maintained special schools.

Our schools aim to meet our obligations under the PSED by:

  • Eliminating discrimination and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
  • Advancing equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
  • Fostering good relations across all characteristics – between people who do share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it

What are protected characteristics?

Equality Act 2010:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Pregnancy and maternity
  • Race
  • Religion or belief
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation

How does our federation comply with the Public Sector Equality Duty?

Our federation vision of 'Living in Unity...together we are ACE' is full aligned with the Public Sector Equality Duty. Our ACE vision provides opportunity for everyone to aspire and achieve their full potential. We work together to be an inclusive federation where all are celebrated and can feel proud and special.

Our ACE particles enable our children to be successful learners and to build positive relationships with others. They are: positive attitude; achievement; responsibility and respect; try and try again…perseverance; independent learner; creativity; live, learn and laugh; everyone working together and sharing and caring.

At Bramford CEVC Primary School our federation vision is underpinned by our Christian values and our chosen psalm: ‘How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.’

We expect all members of our federation community and everyone who enters our school to behave in a way which respects the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010.

Our Federation Equality Objectives 2024-2025

Equality Objective 1: To ensure that the curriculum is broad and balanced; our curriculum driver of Diversity is embedded throughout our curriculum and all pupils can see themselves reflected in the texts, resources and lessons utilised in the school.

Equality Objective 3: To continue to develop our curriculum ensuring it impacts positively on all groups of pupils, enabling them to do more, know more and remember more and to achieve well.

Equality Objective 4: Promote positive emotional and mental wellbeing through our continued work to further develop our pastoral team and by continuing to develop and embed key approaches e.g. Thrive, Zones of Regulation and Stormbreak.

Equality Objective 5: To improve overall rates of attendance at Bramford, particularly for those pupils in receipt of Free School Meals.

Equality Objective 6: To make effective use of whole school inclusion strategies and to develop our teaching and learning approaches using evidence-based approaches and training e.g. Walkthrus and EEF Metacognition.
